Program Offerings

Taking dance at SHS will allow you to explore multi-genre dance history, improve dance technique, gain confidence and performance skills, develop and create your own choreography, experience numerous dance forms, learn about fitness and health, and propel your higher learning to a college dance program.

Studies in our program can lead to numerous opportunities within the field of performance and education. Students can obtain the necessary tools to teach, choreograph, and continue their dance education to higher level.

Dance I-IV

 

These classes revolve around basic dance technique, elements of dance, history, terminology, and beginning choreographic techniques. Students will learn ballet, modern, jazz, folklorico, hip hop, and will culminate their year by performing in the Sunset Dance Concert. Students must pass each year in order to move up another level. Class difficulty progresses each year.

Dance Pathway

 

Dance Pathway is a class for those wanting to audition for Dance Company or Bisonettes. This class is structured to help the student make one or both of the performing groups at Sunset. In 2017 the class had a 99% success rate. Dance Pathway focuses much more on jazz, kicking, and flexibility. You must obtain instructor approval to be placed in this class.

 

 

Sunset Dance Company

 

SDC is a competitive dance company that focuses on performance and choreography. Dance Company performs hip hop, jazz, ballet, lyrical, ballet folklorico, and contemporary. SDC performs around DFW, Texas and the United States. SDC travels frequently for performances and competitions. Students must audition in order to be accepted into the company. Bisonettes Varsity Drill Team

 

The Sunset Bisonettes first got their start in 1952. Bisonettes are a drill team known for their technique, high kicks, and precision on the field. Bisonettes perform at all Football games, Parades, Pep Rallies and end their year with their annual spring show. Students must audition in order to be accepted into the drill team. Bison Belles JV Drill Team

 

The Bison Belles were created in 2018 due to the large amount of interest for another drill team. The Belles perform at football and basketball games, select parades, competition, and the Bisonettes Spring Show.  Students must audition in order to be accepted into the drill team.
